Beauty and the Beast
Blood, sweat and massage will tie the knot!
WASHINGTON, DC (December 3, 2009) -- A massive tractor tire, six feet high with two-inch treads, dominates one wall of Balance Gym's new Thomas Circle location, while a sky-blue boxing ring, freshly-scrubbed of blood and sweat, sits flush against another.
Across town, perched at the north end of Georgetown, is SomaFit, an exclusive fitness spa club with state-of-the-art gym, yoga and Pilates exercise studios and a full-service spa featuring nine treatment rooms, serene lounges, saunas, steam rooms, showers and luxurious changing facilities.
It was love at first sight! Go figure!
This new alliance will join Balance Gym's bold fitness philosophy and innovative training approach with the exclusive amenities of SomaFit. It's signature programs and classes -- Pole Dancing, Sports Boot Camp, and CrossFit, to name a few -- will now be available at SomaFit.
On Saturday, December 12th, Beauty and the Beast will celebrate their union with open houses at both locations – SomaFit and Balance Gym Thomas Circle. Anyone interested in fitness, spa services and healthy living is welcome.
The event will start at 9:00 am on the west side of town -- Balance will bring its signature boot camp to SomaFit's Wisconsin Avenue location, and its hunkiest trainers will put some of SomaFit's more adventurous guests through the traces. SomaFit will offer FREE yoga, Pilates sessions and other interesting classes, and its luxe spa will give complimentary seated massages, skin care demos and samples. Guests will also receive gift certificates for hair services courtesy of the Hair Lounge.
For the first time, SomaFit will make memberships available -- only 125 of them -- which will give members access to SomaFit's spa, yoga and Pilates, Balance Gym's exotic classes and basketball court, and the soaring workout room belonging to Balance Gym's country cousin, the Rock Creek Sports Club in Chevy Chase/Silver Spring.
The action will move east to Balance Gym Thomas Circle in mid-afternoon. The club is located in a bulky four-story building, built as a printing plant in 1929 on the site of the Krazy Kat Club, a notorious Washington speakeasy.
From 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, the boxing ring on the first floor will be alive with FREE classes and exhibitions, while on the third floor, Jessalynn Mediary, named a "Top 12 US Pole Dancer of 2009", will show why pole dancing has become such a sought-after new exercise program.
The gym's newly-renovated retail space on 14th Street will be devoted solely to CrossFit, a choice exercise regimen of athletes; at sundown, the celebration will peak with a CrossFit competition, which anyone offended by muscular male and female bodies is advised to avoid.
It is a good bet that the winners of that competition will be the fittest man and fittest woman in all of Washington. www.balancegym.com, www.somafit.com
