The idea is to provide the full breadth of yoga’s spiritual and physical tradition, giving the students the opportunity to develop a deep and fulfilling connection to yoga.
SOMAFIT offers one of the most comprehensive Teacher Training programs in the city. The 200 hour program, consisting of Part I and Part II, is compliant with the Yoga Alliance standards for inclusion in the national registry for yoga teachers. In addition, Part II individual sessions may be offered (at the discretion of the Director) to individuals who need to take Continuing Education Credits for Yoga Alliance accreditation.
Part I consists of the Yoga Immersion program and the first half of the Teacher Training Program. Running from Sept 2008 to Dec. 2008, it is designed for both students who want to deepen their practice, and to individuals studying to become teachers. Bhekaji has been practicing and studying yoga since 1970. Discovering that asana and pranayama are methods to explore the true nature of the self, she began a life long quest.
Erich Schiffman, master teacher, encouraged her to “teach the teachers”. She has attended workshops and teacher training programs with most of the major western yoga masters.
She incorporates the essential elements of the Astanga tradition (focus on the breath and the heat) with the detail and alignment of the Iyengar tradition. She is also influenced by the vedantic teaching of Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami.
